What is SwitchyOmega?
Proxy SwitchyOmega is a browser extension for Chromium-based browsers that stores multiple proxy configurations as named profiles and lets you switch the active one from a toolbar menu. It is the successor to the older Proxy Switchy and SwitchySharp extensions and remains one of the most widely used proxy managers for account work, scraping-with-a-browser, and QA.
Its standout feature is the Auto Switch profile, a rules engine that picks a proxy based on the URL you visit. You can send one set of domains through a residential proxy, another through a direct connection, and let SwitchyOmega decide automatically. For simpler needs, a single Proxy Profile that you toggle on and off is enough. How to add ProxyOmega to SwitchyOmega
Collect your credentials from the ProxyOmega dashboard: your username plus any targeting parameters, and the account API key which is used as the proxy password. Then configure a new profile.
- Install Proxy SwitchyOmega from the Chrome Web Store or Edge Add-ons and open its options page.
- In the left menu under Profiles, click New profile, name it something like ProxyOmega US, choose Proxy Profile, and click Create.
- In the Protocol dropdown choose HTTP (recommended in Chrome) or SOCKS5.
- In Server enter your plan's endpoint, for example residential.proxyomega.com.
- In Port enter a port from your plan's range, for example 10000.
- Click the lock icon on the right of the server row to open the authentication box.
- Enter your Username with any targeting parameters appended, for example youruser-country-us, and your Password, which is the dashboard API key. Save it.
- Click Apply changes in the left menu so the profile is committed out of staging.
- Click the SwitchyOmega toolbar icon and select your new profile to activate it.
- Open ipinfo.io in a new tab and confirm the displayed IP and country match what you expect.

Choosing HTTP vs SOCKS5 and a plan
Because every ProxyOmega port serves HTTP, HTTPS, and SOCKS5 at once, switching protocol in SwitchyOmega never means changing the port; you only change the Protocol dropdown. In Chrome and Edge, the extension platform does not forward SOCKS5 username and password credentials reliably, so choose HTTP when you authenticate with a password. If you must use SOCKS5 in a Chromium browser, authenticate by IP whitelist instead of a password. HTTP is the pragmatic default for almost all SwitchyOmega setups.

Troubleshooting
If SwitchyOmega does not route as expected, the cause is almost always the staging system, the credentials, or the username suffix. Check these before anything else.
Connection refused / 407
A 407 is an authentication failure. Make sure the password is your dashboard API key rather than your login password, and that the username's targeting parameters are valid, since an unsupported parameter also returns 407. If you use IP whitelisting, note that once any IP is whitelisted only those IPs can connect, so requests from an address that is not listed are refused outright.
Changes didn't take effect
SwitchyOmega stages edits. If your profile seems ignored, return to the options page and click Apply changes, then reselect the profile from the toolbar. Editing without applying is the most common reason a proxy appears not to work.
SOCKS5 login prompt loops
In Chrome and Edge the extension cannot pass SOCKS5 credentials, which can trigger repeated auth prompts. Switch the profile's Protocol to HTTP, or use IP whitelisting so no interactive login is needed.

Where do I enter the proxy username and password?
Click the lock icon on the right of the server row in your Proxy Profile. Enter the username (with any targeting parameters) in the top field and the API key from your dashboard as the password below it, then apply changes.
Why isn't my proxy activating after I set it up?
SwitchyOmega stages edits until you click Apply changes in the left menu. Apply the change, then select the profile from the toolbar. This is the single most common setup mistake.
Should I use HTTP or SOCKS5?
Use HTTP in Chrome and Edge, because those browsers do not forward SOCKS5 credentials to extensions. Every ProxyOmega port serves both, so you keep the same port and just change the Protocol dropdown.
How do I target a country or keep a sticky IP?
Append -country- and a two-letter code to your username, such as youruser-country-fr. For a sticky IP, add -session- with an ID and -ttl- with minutes, for example youruser-session-42-ttl-15.
Can I route different sites through different proxies?
